Grab the lawn chairs, break out the sunglasses, slap on the sunscreen, and don't forget the drinks. No, we're not talking about the beach, we're talking about the 2024 Charleston Air Show hosted this weekend at Joint Base Charleston.

For four hours on both Saturday and Sunday, air enthusiasts, budding pilots, and mechanical mavericks alike will join forces to watch and wonder as some of the best pilots in the world converge on our city.

Planes, areal demonstrations, and above all, a performance by the Thunderbirds will dazzle crowds starting at noon and ending at 4 p.m. both days. 3 p.m. in particular will be "wow" time, as that's when the Thunderbirds are expected to perform.

The forecast for this year's event could be a bit better if we wanted to be picky, but most folks should be happy.

For Saturday, expect very warm temperatures in the upper 80's during the early afternoon. Definitely remember the sunscreen and water!

There are small afternoon rain chances, so having a poncho wouldn't be a bad idea, but it looks like a majority of the rain should hold off until after the show ends.

Sunday will be a tad cooler, with highs in the 70's and increasing clouds. Once again, we do have small rain chances, but also once again the heavier rain should hold off until after the show ends at 4 p.m.

On both days, however, having a poncho or rain jacket in your pack would be helpful. Our Storm Tracker Futurecast shows rain moving in after the air show ends and the journey from the base to your car may be wet. We'll cross our fingers that the rain holds, but it never hurts to be prepared.
