Three administrators in DD2 promoted to new roles for the 2024-25 school year

The Dorchester School District Two (DD2) Board of Trustees promoted three administrators to new roles for the 2024-25 school year.

According to the district, Katie Barker was named chief academic officer, Carey Ball Hodge was named director of Elementary Schools, and Vincent Joy was named principal of Sand Hill Elementary School on April 22.

Barker is the current director of Elementary Schools, according to the district. She joined DD2 in 2001 and has 23 years of experience in education. Her previous roles include title I facilitator at Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary School from 2007 to 2011, assistant principal at Windsor Hill Arts Elementary School from 2011 to 2017, and principal at Summerville Elementary School from 2017 to 2022.

"I look forward to working with the curriculum and instruction team and all our DDTwo schools," Barker said in a statement. "It is an honor to continue to serve our community as we focus on moving our district forward and meeting the needs of our students."

Ball Hodge is the current principal of Flowertown Elementary School, according to the district. She has lived in the Lowcountry since 2008 and has 22 years of experience in education. Her previous roles include classroom teacher from 2004 to 2011, title 1 facilitator at Knightsville Elementary School, and assistant principal at Knightsville Elementary School.

"It is truly an honor to serve as the director of Elementary Education," Ball Hodge said in a statement. "I am excited to work alongside our elementary school families and community members. Through this collective journey, we will continue to put children first by putting love at the center of teaching and learning."

Joy is the current assistant principal at Fort Dorchester Elementary School, according to the district. He has lived in Summerville for 14 years and has 14 years of experience in education. His previous roles include Oakbrook Middle school teacher from 2013 to 2016, DD2 instructional technology specialist from 2016 to 2018, and assistant principal at Rollings Middle School of the Arts from 2018 to 2022.

"My appointment as principal of Sandhill Elementary School fills me with incredible excitement," Joy said in a statement. "I aim to bring a sense of energy, enthusiasm, and happiness to the Sandpiper community."
