COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Governor Henry McMaster is asking SLED to look into concerns about voter registration in South Carolina.

In a letter dated Wednesday, McMaster is asking SLED Chief Mark Keel to have his agency investigate claims from the SC Freedom Caucus that the SC Department of Health and Human Services is providing voter registration forms to people who aren't citizens.

McMaster is asking Keel to set up a meeting with Rep. Adam Morgan, who is the chairman of the SC Freedom Caucus, so he can determine the authenticity of the claims brought to both the Governor's office and Lt. Governor's office.

In a letter, the Caucus says that Morgan has proof that a "non-citizen refugee" contacted Morgan to inform him that the South Carolina Medicaid Office provided her with several voter registration forms even after she notified office personnel that she was not a citizen.

McMaster calls these "very serious allegations" and says the integrity of elections is a top concern.
