Man critically injured in Walterboro shooting, airlifted to trauma center

The Walterboro Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a man critically injured and resulted in him being airlifted to the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue said the man sustained the gunshot wound during an incident at the Colleton Heights Apartments on Sniders Highway around 7:55 p.m.

They said officers had the scene cleared and controlled the bleeding until firefighter-paramedics arrived.

Crews treated the victim and gave him IV fluids before taking him to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to be flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue said the victim was found near the "G" building.
