Construction on drainage improvements has closed the 41st Avenue outfall on Waterway Boulevard in the Isle of Palms, the city said on social media.

The closures started Tuesday, April 23, and run for "several weeks," city officials said.

Traffic will be detoured at 32nd Avenue through Palm Boulevard and up to 41st Avenue, city officials said.

Only local traffic will be accommodated on Waterway Boulevard between 32nd and 41st Avenue to access a dwelling.

Changes in traffic patterns are due to the city beginning phase three of a project to improve stormwater and tidal drainage across the island.

This project is intended to make significant drainage improvements to the 30th, 36th and 41st Avenue outfalls, city officials said.

The project is funded by Isle of Palms and the South Carolina Office of Resilience Disaster Recovery Division.
