Georgetown Co. woman accused of threatening to 'shoot up' church

A woman and her son are behind bars after she allegedly threatened to "shoot up" a church in Murrells Inlet, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.

A member of the Greater Gordon Chapel AME Church on Old River Road reported the threats to deputies on Wednesday.

The member alleged that Marcell Bernette Bryant Renta threatened the shooting after her children were accused of taking a speaker.

According to deputies, Renta claimed the comment was a joke.

Officials investigated Renta's home and found multiple weapons, including a Glock handgun with an illegal switch converting it to an automatic weapon.

The gun was reportedly found under the mattress of Renta's son, Daniel Quardre Bryant.

Renta is charged with unlawful communication and affidavits are pending for unlawful possession of a machine gun for Bryant.

Both remain incarcerated at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
