Fire at Folly Beach home on East Ashley Avenue claims one life: FBPS

One person is dead following a fire at a home on Folly Beach Friday evening.

According to the Folly Beach Department of Public Safety (FBPS), emergency personnel was notified of smoke coming out of a residence on East Ashley Avenue. Firefighters forced entry into the home and extinguished the fire.

Once the fire was extinguished, the firefighters located a male victim in a front bedroom and removed him from the home. The male victim was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he was pronounced deceased.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, as of April 27, and an investigation is ongoing. The Charleston County Coroner's Office will identify the deceased.
