CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Search warrants obtained by News 4 show what led up to the investigation and arrest of former College of Charleston professor Robert Boessenecker, who is accused of taking fossils from the school museum.
According to the search warrant, Boessenecker left the college to work as a tour guide for Recreational Fossil Hunters.
Shortly after joining the company, he showed the woman who runs the operation a donated fossil.

According to the warrant, he told her his wife pulled a few strings to make sure there was no record of it at the museum and that no one would miss it.
Police said she returned the fossil months later, but the curator feared others might still be missing.
The curator then checked and police said his suspicions were confirmed.

Boessenecker is charged with breach of trust and grand larceny.
His wife, Sarah, is charged with breach of trust.
