The nation's first 'black cocktail competition' is happening Friday in Ladson.

The Great Shakeup is a three round elimination competition that features black mixologists from across the U.S.

Alyvia Cain and Sekani Akunyun, two of the contestants, stopped by Good Morning Charleston and showed Mel Orlins and Alissa Holmes how to make some delicious mocktails ahead of the competition.

Berry Smash recipe:

2oz Spiritless Kentucky 74 or other whiskey sub or whiskey/bourbon

.75oz lemon juice

2-3 bar spoons of your favorite jam or fruit spread (Sekani used blackberry)

Garnish with some mint or fruit that matches the jam


LBR (Light, Bubbly, and Refreshing) recipe:

2oz Seedlip

2oz Pineapple juice

Top with tonic water


The Great Shakeup is taking place at the Coan in Ladson from noon to 5 on Friday.
