Charleston’s horse carriage industry barely bouncing back

Covid kicked nearly everything off the horse last year, including Charleston’s horse carriage industry. Downtown businesses are working to get back in the saddle. Business reportedly dropped 60-percent by the end of 2020. Out of the five carriage companies on the peninsula, four have managed to stay open. “Our business model is based on capacity and Covid is not very capacity-friendly,” said Tommy Doyle, owner of Palmetto Carriage Works.
