The Charleston Animal Society announced they're offering a $3,000 reward for information regarding a "severely neglected dog."

The female dog named Whitney they rescued is just over a year old and they say is suffering from hunger and sores around her body.

Whitney was found wandering on Houston Street in North Charleston and was taken to the animal shelter for treatment.

Whitney was emaciated and had a severe mammary gland infection. Charleston Animal Society's veterinarians drained the mammary abscesses, cleaned and bandaged her wounds, and gave the dog antibiotics and pain medications.

"This didn't happen in a day. She has been suffering for a long time without getting the food and medical attention she desperately needed," Charleston Animal Society Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Aldwin Roman, said. "Thankfully, she is under our care and is now on the long road to recovery."

Charleston Animal Society said Whitney was covered in "Blu-Kote" which is a farm germicidal spray used on livestock.

The shelter is offering a $3,000 reward for information that leads to a felony arrest and conviction for those involved.

Anyone with that information can contact the Charleston Animal Society at 843-747-4849.
