Black bear struck and killed by vehicle on Hwy 17 in Awendaw: AMFD

A black bear was struck and killed in Awendaw this week.

The Awendaw-McClellanville Fire District (AMFD) announced the black bear's death on April 27 at 8:44 p.m.

According to the AMFD, a vehicle struck and killed the black bear on Highway 17 near Mount Nebo Church.

Fire personnel say this is the third black bear killed by a motor vehicle in the Awendaw area in five years.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) will investigate the bear's death.
