It's a team effort to handle hunger in Berkeley County.

Westview Elementary School in Goose Creek invited the Lowcountry Food Bank and Publix for food distribution on Tuesday morning.

Dozens of people in need got the chance to pick up free fresh produce and canned foods.

Unfortunately, it's not uncommon to see the need, Nick Osborne, the Food Bank's president and chief executive officer, said.

"The need for fresh produce and fresh food," Osborne added, "we can see the number of neighbors that find themselves in a situation where they don't have any other options for getting food."

But meeting that need where it's at is easier now for the Lowcountry Food Bank.

Publix Charities donated a large food pantry truck.

"It gives us a lot more flexibility in terms of where we can go," Osborne said. "It gives us flexibility in terms of when we can go. It means that we can do more distributions. Suit the different situations."

The vehicle allows the Food Bank to store food longer and fresher before giving it away.
