2 dead after Tuesday night shooting in downtown Charleston: CPD

Two people are dead after a shooting in downtown Charleston, the city's police department said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., the Charleston Police Department responded to reports of gunshots on Johnson Street between America Street and Hanover Street. Upon arrival, they discovered two gunshot victims who were both pronounced dead, Charleston Police spokesperson Anthony Gibson said.

The scene, as of 11:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, remains active with officers conducting initial investigations.

Police said additional details will be shared as they become available.
