(SUMMERTON, S.C.) -- Spirit Pharmaceuticals announced Wednesday that it would be building a new $12.2 million facility in Clarendon County. The new facility is expected to generate 296 new jobs.
Spirit Pharmaceuticals, a company that makes generic pharmaceuticals, will be opening the new packaging and manufacturing facility in Summerton in early 2014.
The medical and life sciences industry is growing in South Carolina as of late. Since 2011 the state has recruited more than 2,000 new jobs, and $400 million in capital investments.
“Announcements like this one show that South Carolina is increasingly becoming the ‘it’ state for business,” said Governor Nikki Haley.
